Tractor grand prize goes to Hooper ticket

This year’s winner of the 430 Case tractor grand prize at the Antique Tractor Bee held at Rae Valley was Thad Frey of Hooper. The second-place winner was Ed Stanies of Central City, picking up the pedal pull tractor.

Library holds summer reading program

The Petersburg Public Library hosted a summer reading program in June. At the end of three days, participants were given a chance to continue the reading challenge with a punch card.

A good-sized crowd attended the 70th anniversary open house hosted by the Antelope Boone County (ABC) Club in the Village Campus with Garden party as a theme. All members wore hats.

Saturday, August 9th the annual Marv Koch/ Duane Childers memorial trap Shoot was held at the Antelope County Shooters trap range. Over 55 shooters were present.

(Above) Utility lines were being laid in the alley to what is planed as the new home of Nick Prothman in west Petersburg; (below): recently the house previously owned by Mike Prothman now the property of Jason and Samantha Zabka was razed and cleaned up. Many will remember this as the Marv and Mary Zabka home; (below left): last week repair work was completed on one lane of Main Street near Central Valley Ag elevator two crumbled spots were removed and repoured. (below right) The area received heavy truck traffic. Construction is progressing on the new home of Doug and Amber Heusman Petersburg’s newest addition.

Blood Drive comes up just a few units short

According to Petersburg’s Red Cross blood drive coordinatorsKathy Koch and JoAnn Mattner the July 21st drive was short of their 48-unit goal by six units. They reported two new donors Laurene Veik and Tina Stokes.

Pelster inducted to Gloves Hall of Fame

A great honor was bestowed upon Steve Pelster of Omaha in mid-May of this year. After spending decades of his life boxing and working with Golden Gloves of America, a prestigious amateur boxing organization, Pelster was inducted into the Golden Gloves Boxing Hall of Fame.

Petersburg Squads volunteer during fair...

The Petersburg Fire Department along with other Boone County departments assisted with duties at the Boone County Fair. The Petersburg Rescue unit was on call at the fair during the concert and the PVFD assisted with concert security. The PVFD/Rescue Unit also assisted at several other fair events. Splash pad dedicated, volunteers honored

Wednesday evening an onsite splash pad dedication was scheduled at the park but by afternoon a weather prediction of rain caused the event to be held in the fire station, and the predicted rain did come which also closed carnival activities.
