Lighting contest held in Petersburg

For the first time in many years Petersburg along with Loup Power District co-sponsored a village Christmas lighting contest. Village board members served as judges viewing the many varied holiday lighting displays December 22. Winners were 1st place receiving $200 Doug and Jean Reicks, son Zach has the Christmas spirit, imagination and is responsible for putting up the 1000’s of lights along with other decorations.

PCC hosts comedian at Christmas event

Last Monday evening area residents gathered in Werner Hall for the annual Petersburg Community Club Christmas event. The evening began with a Windsor Loin supper catered by the Albion Knights of Columbus and followed by comedian Matt Beller of Omaha.

Caroling shares season with neighbors

Despite Saturday nights 2-degree temperature, a group of Petersburg Christmas carolers boarded the Rae Valley Heritage’s open air trolly to wish residents a merry Christmas. Due to the biting cold caroling time was shortened somewhat. Soup, cinnamon rolls, Runza’s and refreshments were served following in the PVFD community room.

Blood Drive holds “very successful” collection

Red Cross Blood Drive Coordinators Kathy Koch and JoAnn Mattner reported a very successful December 2nd blood drive with 47 units from 41 loyal doners and exceeded their goal of 41. In 2025 the Petersburg drive collected 209 units giving the gift of life to many.

Big Give event held at Campus

December 2nd the Big Give Committee hosted a space for organizations to explain what each was asking for in their Big Give Request. The Village Campus is requesting funding toward two water bottle fillers one in the lobby and one in the fitness center, and a stair climber to replace the original one.
Elaine Beckman demonstrated to residents how easy it is now to access the Petersburg Press and Index files explaining how the process of transferring the old microfiche film to flash and hard drive worked.

EPJ students mandated Nov. 20

Five Pope John XXIII Central Catholic students were mandated as lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) Thursday morning, November 20th at an all-school 8:15 a.m. Mass. Father John Norman conducted the mandating. He thanked the students for their willingness to serve their school and parishes. Students mandated were Gavin Kallhoff (EMHC), Brooke Kinney (EMHC), Elizabeth Moser (EMHC), Aubrie Parks (EMHC), Samantha Stuhr (lector & EMHC).

Rueth and Pelster awarded Quilts of Valor

A large happy crowd attended the American Legion Post 334 supper, including the Quilts of Valor ceremony and silent auction. The hard work of preparing the evening meal was done by Karen Arends and family.

Rae Valley Market closes, still for sale

Petersburg’s Rae Valley Market closed its doors officially on October 31,2025 remaining open for several extra days selling remaining stock at a discount. A for sale sign has appeared on Highway 14, and the owners are entertaining offers at 402-3865771.

Recognition dinner held...

The Petersburg Fire Department and Rescue Unit held their annual recognition supper Saturday November 1 in the fire hall with social hour at 6 p.m. and supper at 7 p.m.
