District 41 Legislature candidates meet voters in Boone County

Two Republican candidates for the District 41 seat in Nebraska’s Legislature were campaigning in Boone County last week. Candidate Ethan Clark and his wife, Elizabeth of Ord were joined by First District Nebraska Congressman Mike Flood for a meet and greet at the Casey building on the Boone County Fairgrounds last Friday, April 5.

Boone Central FFA collects three state titles at convention

Boone Central FFA members traveled to Lincoln from April 3 - 5 to participate in the Nebraska State FFA Convention. While there, they competed in Leadership Development Events (LDEs), Career Development Events (CDEs), Agriscience Fair and Proficiency finals along with attending sessions, workshops, and keynote speakers.
NATIONAL QUALIFIERS -- Boone Central FFA Ag Sales team of (l.-r.) Melany Preister, Natalie Pelster, Ciara Baker and Bella Meyer won the state contest for their event, and also qualified for national competition.

County attorney awaiting autopsy in teen’s death

An autopsy has been ordered by Boone County Attorney John Morgan regarding the cause of death of Zachary Panther, 17. Morgan said announcement of the cause of death would be made after the autopsy report is received, which could take several weeks.

Big wind causes building damage

Extreme winds last Saturday afternoon, April 6, lifted the roof of this storage building located east of Levander Funeral Home at the south edge of Albion. Three tele-handlers were brought in to stabilize the structure until the wind changed direction and the roof section could be brought back down to its proper location, according to owner Tony Levander. Wind speeds were well over 30 miles per hour in the area, with some stronger gusts.

A drama that features the World War II experiences of a young Nebraska soldier will be featured in Albion at the Boone Central High School Performing Arts Gym this Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m. This work by Lincoln playwright Becky Boesen centers around the wartime experiences of Staff Sergeant Clarence Williams of Nebraska as related through his personal letters home.
