Keep campaign signs off state road rights of way

Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is reminding the public that it is unlawful to place political campaign signs, or any signs, on state highway and interstate right-of-way. This includes intersections, medians, entrance and exit ramps, sidewalks and the ditches and lands that make up the right-of-way bordering the length of each roadway.

A March ice and windstorm whipped through Cornhusker Public Power District’s service area on Monday, March 25, causing approximately 2,800 meters to be without power, many for two days. The storm started the morning of March 25 and did not let up until the evening of Tuesday, March 26.

Boone County Ministerial Association and many parishioners took part in the annual Good Friday Cross Walk in Albion on March 29. The group made seven stops, including this one at Boone Central Elementary, to pray and contemplate the last words of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion.

A partial solar eclipse will be visible in the Boone County area this Monday, April 8. While this will not be a spectacular total eclipse as occurred over this area in 2017, many area residents will still want to view it between 12:30 and 3:15 p.m.

Teen’s death reported at hog confinement

A death of not-yet-determined causes was reported via 911 call Monday, April 1, at 11:30 a.m. to the Boone County Sheriff’s office. The caller stated a 17-year-old juvenile was unresponsive at a hog confinement west of St. Edward. The Sheriff’s office responded to the scene and located the deceased juvenile Zach Panther. The Sheriff was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol.

Extensive damage in roll-over Monday

This pickup driven by Dustin Liss of Columbus was involved in a roll-over crash on Highway 14 about six miles south of Albion on Monday, April 1, shortly after 4 p.m. The driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel, and the southbound vehicle entered the east ditch and rolled. Liss, alone in the vehicle, was transported to Boone County Health Center by Albion Rescue for treatment of injuries.

BC competing in State FFA contests this week

Many Boone Central FFA members are entered in competitions at the 2024 Nebraska State FFA Convention to be held April 3-5 at the UNL East Campus in Lincoln. Boone Central members have qualified to compete in 15 areas of state contests.
