BCDA awards Kidz Life business grant

Last week, the Boone County Development Agency (BCDA) presented a $1,500 check to Jacii Lopez, owner of A Kidz Life 2 Daycare, located in Petersburg. The funds are part of BCDA’s Energizing Entrepreneurs program, which is designed to support local entrepreneurs as they pursue opening a business in Boone County.

Heithoff named CCO at GPS Bank

Great Plains State Bank has announced the promotion of Todd Heithoff to Chief Credit Officer. As the CCO, Heithoff will oversee all credit operations and maintain his position as Market President for the Petersburg Branch.

Bloodmobile surpasses goal, picks up multiple “Power Reds”

According to Red Cross blood drive coordinators Kathy Koch and JoAnn Mattner the February 4 blood drive collected 46 units surpassing a goal of 42, with Power Reds products at 11. GPS Bank named for Regional award by Newsweek magazine

Great Plains State Bank has been named Best Regional Bank by Newsweek for 2025. CEO and President Rick Chochon said, “it is an honor to be recognized for our growth as well as the success of the trust and partnerships we have established within the communities we serve.” For the second time, Plant-A Insights Group and Newsweek collaborated to identify America’s Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions 2025.

Schumacher named Voice District 3 winner

Kaitey Schumacher, senior at Pope John XXIII Central Catholic, was chosen as the VFW District 3 Voice of Democracy winner. She will be honored at the Nebraska Veterans of Foreign Wars Mid-Winter Conference in Lincoln later this month.

The Petersburg Community Club met Monday evening in the Petersburg American Legion Club for their annual membership soup supper and January meeting. The meeting opened with presentation of First Dollar plaques by president Danielle Koch to WW Concrete LLC owned by Adam Wies and Phil Wright and Advantage ATV owned by Mitch Kubert.

Nick Schwager of Petersburg was named as the seventh winner of a 2024 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 SuperCrew truck in the 29th edition of the Nebraska Lottery’s $2 Truck$ & Buck$ Scratch game. Schwager purchased his winning Truck$ & Buck$ ticket at Cedar’s Rapid Stop at 615 S 2nd St.
