Lindsay Event center nears completion

As construction wraps up on the multi-use facility, organizers have officially opened the calendar for 2026 event bookings, inviting families, businesses, organizations, and individuals to begin planning now for their special occasions.

Tractor grand prize goes to Hooper ticket

This year’s winner of the 430 Case tractor grand prize at the Antique Tractor Bee held at Rae Valley was Thad Frey of Hooper. The second-place winner was Ed Stanies of Central City, picking up the pedal pull tractor.

Barnes sees success in New York

Boone Central sophomore Leialoha Barnes saw great success at a world wide modeling and talent competition held in New York this summer. She participated in New York’s International Modeling and Talent Association (IMTA) Competition, and, under the modeling name Kayda Cruz, took her sections of the five day contest by storm.

Look excited about new year at Boone Central

As Boone Central Schools welcomes the start of the new school year, they also welcome in the start of new school superintendent Christopher Look. Look grew up in northwest Kansas in Stockton and lived there until he moved for college.

Parliamentary teams in national top 10

Boone Central High School has announced that the local FCCLA Parliamentary Procedure teams, level 2 and level 3, have both placed in the top 10 of the nation at the 2025 Nationals Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida this past July.

Artwork chosen for state calendar

The artwork of 13 Nebraska students will be featured in the 2026 “Nebraska: Don’t Waste It!” environmental calendar, and an Albion student was chosen for the calendar’s cover. The statewide contest is sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment (DWEE) and focuses on the importance of waste reduction, recycling and litter cleanup.

Arena celebrating 5th anniversary

Staff 2025 marks the five year anniversary of the completion of Albion’s Niewohner Arena located at the Albion Fairgrounds at 2624 Fairgrounds Road. To commemorate the occasion the Albion News met with the Albion fairgrounds manager, Chuck Rolf, to talk about the history and importance of the arena.

Pelster inducted to Gloves Hall of Fame

A great honor was bestowed upon Steve Pelster of Omaha in mid-May of this year. After spending decades of his life boxing and working with Golden Gloves of America, a prestigious amateur boxing organization, Pelster was inducted into the Golden Gloves Boxing Hall of Fame.

From a summer job to a lifetime of service at the fairgrounds… What was supposed to be a one or two year summer job turned into an almost 40-year journey I never expected. In May of 1986, my wife Angie, our daughter Ashley, and I, moved back from Lincoln for the summer.
