Boone Central FFA recently announced via their social media that the chapter has received a $10,000 grant from Country Partners that will help the group support members, projects, and learning opportunities. “This funding allows us to expand our leadership development and better prepare our members for careers in agriculture.”

Knights to hold “roll” drive

The Albion Knights of Columbus Council #1739 will be holding its annual Tootsie Roll Drive on the weekend of January 17-18, 2026. Council #1739 will join Councils across the State in the annual drive.

Sentinel Building hosts blood drive

Sentinel Building Systems in Albion hosted a blood drive last Thursday, collecting 29 units to donate to those in need. Those making collection milestones included: Mari Melcher, 11 gallon; Mark Hooker, 4 gallon; Joe Brugger, 1 gallon, Garrett Bixenmann, 2 gallon; Hadley Gulbrandson, 1 gallon and Carter Beister, 1 gallon..

Caroling shares season with neighbors

Despite Saturday nights 2-degree temperature, a group of Petersburg Christmas carolers boarded the Rae Valley Heritage’s open air trolly to wish residents a merry Christmas. Due to the biting cold caroling time was shortened somewhat. Soup, cinnamon rolls, Runza’s and refreshments were served following in the PVFD community room.

Big Give totals top $360,000

Preliminary results for this year’s Boone County Big Give marked donations totalling more than $360,000 from the week-long event. The website indiciated that the $363,254.22 in preliminary totals, coming in from 1,398 total donors, as posted online.

Big Give totals over $10,000

Preliminary results for the Big Give week of giving for the Petersburg organizations that participated this year have totaled more than $10,000. The Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department total was the highest for the community with $5,395 reported on the Big Give website at the close of the event.

“Hats off for Kyle” great success

Two weeks ago, Newman Grove PreK–12 students showed their support in a fun and meaningful way—Hat Day! Students donated $2 each for the chance to wear their favorite hat, and together they raised funds to send a special care package to Kyle Eversole, who is currently deployed with the U.S. Army. “We are so proud of our students for stepping up and showing gratitude to someone serving our country. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this effort a success!” From the school social media

Albion members honored at 4H achievement day

Boone County 4-H families enjoyed an ice cream social, compliments of the Boone County 4-H Council at the Annual 4-H Achievement Party held on Sunday, October 19th at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Albion, says Steve Pritchard, Extension Educator in Boone and Nance Counties. Many local 4-H members, leaders and volunteers were recognized for their special efforts and years of participation in the 4-H program.
