Two acts named for Boone County Fair

The Boone County Ag Society announced via their social media pages last week, Feb. 19, that two musical acts have been booked for Tuesday evening during this year’s Boone County Fair.

Spirit squads compete over the weekend

The Boone Central cheerleaders competed in Traditional Tumbling and Game Day on Friday, February 20th. While they did not place in the top 5, they achieved their highest scores since we have been participating in cheer competitions. The Cardinal dance team then competed on Saturday, February 21st, in the categories of Jazz and High Kick. The girls placed 4th in High Kick. Both groups received Academic Excellence Awards.

Reynoldson places in VOD contest

Boone Central senior Elissa Reynoldson with her Voice of Democracy award along with Past National President Dixie Hild, State Auxiliary President Liz Davis and State VFW Post Commander Ron Sibal. The winners of the state Voice of Democracy contest were announced at the VFW Mid-Winter Conference in Lincoln, on Friday January 30, 2026. The 10 district winners competed for over $10,000 in scholarship money. Elissa placed eighth. She is the daughter of Jason and Lisa Reynoldson of Albion.

BC youth headed to Washington D.C.

Eleven junior and senior Boone Central students will travel to Washington D.C. at the end of April with sponsors Dan Zoucha and Cassie Olson on the Close Up Program.

Petersburg drive collects 37 units

RedCross Blood Drive Coordinators Kathy Koch and JoAnn Mattner reported a successful Petersburg February blood drive with 37 units donated surpassing their goal of 36 with several milestones set. Donors were down, expected due to illness etc.

Seven attend UNK Honor Choir

Body
On Monday, January 26th, seven Boone Central High School Choir students participated in the UNK Honor Choir and Band Festival in Kearney. Students completed a recorded audition in order to be considered. Over 600 high school students from over 100 Nebraska schools were selected to participate in the 3 choirs and 2 bands at this year’s festival. Students rehearsed throughout the day, and finished with a public performance Monday evening.

Blood drive sees 83 donors

The Albion Community hosted an American Red Cross Blood Drive on January 26, 2026. Eighty three register donors helped to collect 74 living saving units.

Young singers attend “Sing Around” event

On Saturday, January 31st, 12 Boone Central 5th and 6th Graders traveled to Central City to participate in the Sing Around Nebraska festival. Sing Around Nebraska takes place in even-numbered years at several sites around the state.

12.2 million shoeboxes shipped for “Operation Christmas Child”

Samaritan’s Purse is celebrating a successful season after collecting 12.2 million Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts in 2025, sharing the love of Jesus with children in need around the world. Again this year, Saving Grace Bible Church served as a dropoff location for Operation Christmas Child.
