Raptors win district title

Nebraska Raptors 14U softball team, playing out of Silver Creek, recently claimed the District 5 softball championship in Grand Island to earn a spot in the Class C State championships. Team members are (front, l.-r.) Jaedyn Friesen, Brielle Wiese, Emma Preister, Brecklyn Kurz and Chloe Schott; (back) MacKenzie Kurtenbach, Caitlyn Ferris, Sierra Reardon, Adalyn Bishop, Lily Thieman and Kaleigh Rickard-Fischer. The players are from Fullerton, Genoa, Silver Creek, St Edward, Petersburg, Humphrey and Lindsay.

Raceway catches up after rains wash out events

With the Boone County Fair on deck for next week, the Boone County Raceway will be holding the annual Tanner Pelster Memorial event this weekend, July 7. This year’s event will feature a number of specialty payouts sure to attract some racers – a Late Model Payout; Hobby Stock Payout and Stock Car Payout and more have upped some of the prize money to $1,311, $1811 and $6,111 as of Monday.

Albion Legion Seniors get back on track on the road

The Albion Seniors were back in action last week with a long road stand cut a little short by weather. Their first match found them in Ord on Wednesday Jun 26th. The Cardinals were a little shaky in the first but got things back on track enroute to a 5-2 victory.
Trent Patzel handled some pitching against Plainview’s Seniors team.

Downtown Athletic Club honors 2014 state title football team

A crowd of about 100 people saluted some of the top athletes from Albion/Boone Central at a new biannual event, the Downtown Athletic Club (DAC) Banquet, on Friday, June 14, at the Albion Country Club. The DAC has previously presented its Hall of Fame awards during the alumni banquet, but this year held its event independently on the night before alumni gathered.

Cornerstone Seniors finish week on solid 3-1 note

James Fogleman and Keaton Hunt combined for a one-hit shutout to start the team off for the week, fanning 10 batters through six innings to secure a dominant victory over O’Neill. The bats were hot as well with the Cards scoring 10 runs off 9 hits with runs in all but one inning of the contest.
