Tornado spotted close to Petersburg on Friday

Last Friday, April 26, the Petersburg Fire Department trained spotters went into the countryside at 2:40 p.m. Somewhat after 3 p.m., a tornado was spotted one mile west and one-half south of Petersburg. Once the tornado touched the ground the local sirens were sounded. The tornado was watched until it became rain wrapped and apparently dissipated.

Commissioners hear from residents on drainage issues

Boone County Commissioners started their April 24 meeting with a discussion of water drainage issues west of Albion in the area of 250th Street and Old Mill Road. Steven Ruzek, Dave Warner and Rob Robinson told the board a waterway in that area backs up during big rains, which could cause flooding in some houses.

Petersburg native Danny Henn is marking 10 years in business at Rae Valley Repair in Petersburg. He will hold an open house at the business, 102 North Front Street, on Saturday, May 4, starting at 3 p.m.

Boone Central’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members earned gold and silver ratings in District Leadership STAR competition held April 6-9 in Lincoln. The 19 students from Boone Central competed along with members from across Nebraska.
