New trooper class includes Albion recruit

A new class of Nebraska State Patrol recruit training is under way at the NSP Training Academy in Grand Island. The recruits of Camp 74 started their journey today to earn the title of Nebraska State Trooper.

CASA Connection now in Boone County

CASA Connection or Court Appointed Special Advocates Connection has been approved to extend its reach into Boone County. CASA Connection’s goal is to recruit, screen, train, and supervise volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children who have been placed into the foster care system.

Nurses certify in child safety

Boone County Health Center is continuing its commitment to keeping children safe by certifying two registered nurses as Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs). Angie Schalk, RN, and Maria Kinney, RN, completed the nationally recognized certification program in April.

Ross, O’Brien honored by NSVFA

The Nebraska State Volunteer Fire Association (NSVFA) gives recognition for services which NSVFA members provide during the opening ceremonies of the Nebraska State Fire School each year, and this year’s recipients were two Good Samaritans recognized and nominated by the Albion Fire and Rescue. Albion’s Fire Chief, Bruce Benne, submitted two local men, Jim O’Brien and Robert Ross, for their work during an accident in January, and the pair was honored at the Heartland Event Center in Grand Island at the NSVFA convention.
Robert Ross was unable to attend the Opening Ceremonies on May 15th, but was able to attend the June 8th AVFD Meeting and receive his plaque, he is pictured above (center, holding plaque), and the photo includes Isaac Reeder and several AVFD members that responded to the incident.

Education Foundation taking applications

The Albion Education Foundation is now accepting applications for the Olson/Wolf Loan Program, which provides educational loans to students who have graduated from high schools located in Antelope, Boone, Greeley, Nance, and Wheeler counties.

Pull held at Fairgrounds...

The Albion Tractor Pull held on Sunday June 7th at the Boone County Fairgrounds was a huge success. The infield of the race track was bursting with tractors from many counties according to the license plates on the trucks and trailers parked west of the track.

Valuation protests need to be filed by June 30

Summer is right around the corner, so this week, I would like to provide a reminder of two important deadlines that occur on Tuesday, June 30th. First, June 30th is the last day for individuals to file for a Homestead Exemption for property tax relief.
