Courthouse fire call was HVAC issue

Following the response to the fire call at the Boone County Courthouse last week, it was reported that it appeared to be an HVAC issue that caused the concern. According to the department members, there was a new HVAC unit installed that morning and it appeared to have some mechanical issues which caused it to introduce smoke into the ventilation system.

Choir sings at District Music Contest

Members of the Boone Central Band and Choir traveled to Norfolk High School for the NSAA District Music Contest on Friday, April 24th. Norfolk High School was the host site of 17 schools.

Andreasen, Baker named Cardinal King and Queen

The 2026 Boone Central Cardinal Prom was held on Saturday with a theme of “Night in Rio.” The students were dressed to impress for the Grand March, and crowed this year’s Cardinal King and Queen were: Cody Andreasen, son of Brian and Cheryl Andreasen; and Sierra Baker, daughter of Dave and Sharon Baker.

Name: Denny Johnson Age: 55 Family: wife, Melinda; three married daughters, seven grandchildren Occupation: Boone County Sheriff Social, Church or Civic Service: I have been a member of the Albion United Methodist Church for over forty years where I have served as a Trustee for many years. I have served on the Albion Board of Adjustment, and I am currently an active member of the Northeast Nebraska Juvenile Detention Board and a member of the Nebraska Sheriff’s Association. I have volunteered for Cops and Bobbers, Youth Mentor Hunts, school events, and several fundraising events throughout Boone County, along with coaching and officiating youth and adult sports. I created the Boone County Mobile Food Pantry for those in need. I fully support our local volunteer Fire and Rescue Departments and work with the City of Albion Police Department on a daily basis.

BCFF awards $56,100 in grants

On April 8th, the Boone County Foundation Fund (BCFF), an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation (NCF), awarded $56,100 in grant funding to 20 local charitable projects. During the event, hosted at Highway 14 Brewing Company, fund advisory committee members shared information about who the BCFF is, how the organization is funded, and how its unrestricted endowment continues to provide the funds needed to make a meaningful impact on the county.

Possible fire investigated at Courthouse...

Albion Fire and Rescue were called to a possible fire at the Boone County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters joined Albion Police and the Boone County Sheriff’s office as courthouse patrons, attorneys and employees gathered on the lawn outside to wait for the final clear.
