Nebraska junior high rodeo finals held in Albion

The third annual Nebraska Junior High (5-8 grade) State Finals Rodeo was held over the weekend at the Boone County Agriculture and Education Center and Niewohner Arena. More than 90 contestants from 55 different came to the community on May 7-8 to show their talents, including: Girls events: Pole Bending, Breakaway, Goat Tying, Barrel Racing, Boys events: Chute Dogging, Breakaway, Tie Down Roping, Goat Tying, Bull/Steer Riding, Bareback Steer Riding, Saddle Bronc Steer Riding, Boys/Girls events: Team Roping, Ribbon Roping.

Teammates celebrates year of mentoring

Boone Central TeamMates celebrated another great year of mentoring by hosting their annual Spring Banquet on Sunday, the 26th, at the Cardinal Inn. The evening was kicked off by a group of middle school students who performed their Oral Interpretation of Drama skit, “Ten Reasons You Should Stay Home from School.” Pastor Keith Brich, a TeamMate mentor himself, led the nearly 200 in attendance in prayer before enjoying a delicious meal catered by Country Mile Catering.

Venue on 4th opens season

The Albion Economic Development Corporation and a host of local vendors kicked off the season in downtown Albion with a Cinco De Mayo celebration at the Venue on 4th last week. Cinco De Mayo is Spanish for ‘Fifth of May’, and is an annual worldwide celebration held on May 5 to celebrate Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza.

Cornerstone donates three-point proceeds

Steven Ruzek, VP & Manager of Cornerstone Bank in Albion, recently presented a $792 donation to the Boone Central Cardinals boys and girls varsity basketball teams as part of Cornerstone Bank’s “$3 for 3” program.

Six take First Communion

Andreasen, Baker named Cardinal King and Queen

The 2026 Boone Central Cardinal Prom was held on Saturday with a theme of “Night in Rio.” The students were dressed to impress for the Grand March, and crowed this year’s Cardinal King and Queen were: Cody Andreasen, son of Brian and Cheryl Andreasen; and Sierra Baker, daughter of Dave and Sharon Baker.
